PVC gutters are channels made from rigid Poly Vinyl chloride (uPVC), installed along roof edges to collect and direct rainwater.
PVC fittings are the connectors, corners, downspouts, brackets, and joints that link gutter sections together into a full drainage system.
Traditionally, gutters were made of metal (steel, cast iron, aluminium), but today PVC is very common.
PVC is used due to its corrosion resistance, will not rust like metal. Lightweight and easy to install. PVC has good weather durability resisting UV, moisture, and frost. PVC has low maintenance, which means no painting, with just occasional cleaning. PVC is a cost-effective being cheaper than metal alternatives, with a long service life.
PVC by itself, is not stable under heat, UV, and long-term weathering. Since gutters and fittings are used outdoors for decades, they need stabilizers. This is where ALCAMIZER™ (hydrotalcite) products come into play. Gutters are made by extrusion of PVC at 180–200°C. At these temperatures, PVC tends to release HCl, which causes degradation. ALCAMIZER™ products capture and neutralize HCl, preventing breakdown during production.
Weather Resistance in Service. Gutters face sunlight, rain, frost, and pollution. ALCAMIZER™ products help prevent yellowing, chalking, and brittleness by scavenging acidic by products formed under UV and heat.
Eco-Friendly Stabilization. Historically, lead and cadmium stabilizers were used in outdoor PVC (gutters, pipes, windows). These are now banned in most regions (EU, US, etc.). ALCAMIZER™ products are non-toxic, REACH/RoHS compliant stabilizers.
Maintaining Appearance. Homeowners expect gutters to stay white, brown, or black with minimal fading. ALCAMIZER™ products keep the PVC’s color and gloss stable over many years.
Synergy with Other Additives. PVC gutter formulations include TiO₂, UV absorbers, lubricants, and pigments. ALCAMIZER™ products support these additives by neutralizing acids that would otherwise cause degradation.
